Medieval Times:

What was it really like and more!

Children Receive Daily Tutorials in Phonological Awareness, Reading Fluency, Comprehension, and Writing

Date to be determined

Ages 6-14, Grades 1-8

Sunglow works with children ages 6-14 or grades 1-8 for our after school literacy support. Children are placed in small groups according to their age and grade levels. Separate middle school groups are available.

9am-3pm
Grades 7- high school can attend for just tutoring or volunteer to help and reduce tutoring fees

Students will study about real life during the middle ages and explore a window into this world through fiction in this  weeklong fun camp.  Kids age 6-14 have a  chance to read and share stories written about jousting, knights, dragons, and damsels in distress.  Kids will have guided reading groups, read - aloud sessions and a book walk.  Literacy activities with arts and crafts will be added in the afternoon if raining.  The afternoon wraps up with a vocabulary bingo session and popsicles. Otherwise it is off to the pool for an hour of swimming and fun.

The goal of these week long literacy camps is to use literature as a door to a broader world, and the core of these camps lies in building a foundation of knowledge while engaging children in enriching literacy activities that use differentiated instruction. The camps involve children in the world of literature and ideas by fostering self-expression and confidence. Students experience the satisification that accompanies insight and self-discovery while developing reading skills and a love of learning. Groups are based on skills and ages as appropriately determined by each student.

We use Orton Gillingham to help children  improve their reading and spelling. At Sunglow we also work to help children improve their reading fluency and comprehension skills.

Let Sunglow help your child build confidence in reading and writing. Children do not need to be receiving Title One or Special Education services to benefit from our literacy enriching camps. If your child needs extra support in reading and writing then look at our educational literacy camps.
We make learning fun.
